AB Sequence
For our second video Challenge, we were to create a AB video sequence. We leaned that this meant we would portray a person traveling from one point to another using various shots and angles. We discussed how we should include various types of shots (ex. wide shot, extreme close up, medium shot, etc) and always make sure the person portrayed should move from the same direction unless you are trying to imply that they are turning back around / changing directions. We watched a few review examples, such as the escape scene from Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark and other class's work.
Concept
Based on the similar examples we had seen, my group originally had a hard time thinking a little bit outside of the box. After some discussion though, we constructed the idea of someone coming late to class, going to get a late slip, coming back, seeing that its test day, and sneaking out of school. Once we discussed it with our teacher, we realized that it was a bit much for a 30 second time constraint. So we decided to cut out the part where they came to class first.
Editing
Since I was not there for film day, I began reviewing the footage when I got back. I won't lie, I didn't really have a lot to work with, they didn't really go through with the things we had discussed. For example they had Rose walk instead of run the whole time, she kept laughing, they didn't retake shots, shots were cut short, and overall there weren't enough different shots. It could have been worse, and I do like my group but editing was rough. I had piece it together and try to make it look natural. I couldn't fit everything because of the slow walking, but I think it looks semi okay. I added in some music for mood, I added a happy upbeat song for the whole thing and then put in suspenseful music for when she realized it was test day.
Things I Would Do the Same
-Concept: I liked our general idea for the video
Things I Would Do Differently
-Filming: I feel like my group didn't do that many shots, that many different shots, and in general weren't thinking ahead when filming. The shots where long, as in instead of quickly walking from one side of the screen to the other, she walked slowly while almost laughing the whole time.
-Music: Just like last time, I struggled to find royalty free music that went with what I was going for.
Conclusion
Overall, I did like my group and our concept, but I feel that my group members didn't do a lot of justice to our ideas or put a lot of work into getting good shots.
